Liturgy, Solemnities and Feasts - July 2022

The Liturgy for Sunday 31st July 2022

EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Look for the Things of Heaven

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with the world: God made it and it is good. But we must look beyond it to its creator if we are to appreciate the kingdom to which God has called us.

The Readings:

Ecclesiastes 1:2;2:21-23

Colossians 3:1-5.9-11

Gospel: Luke 12:13-21

Collect:

Draw near to your servants,

O Lord, and answer their prayers

with unceasing kindness, that, for those who glory in you as their Creator and guide, you may restore what you have created and keep safe what you have restored.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Liturgy for Sunday 24th July 2022

SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Lord, Teach Us to Pray

Jesus came to reveal how close we are to God our Father, and to Jesus as our brother. We must therefore never be afraid to ask our loving Father for all our needs, knowing that he will grant all that is good for us.

The Readings:

Genesis 18:20-30

Colossians 2:12-14

Gospel: Luke 11:1-13

Collect:

O God, protector of those

who hope in you, without whom

nothing has firm foundation, nothing is holy, bestow in abundance your mercy on us

and grant that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may use the good things that pass

in such a way as to hold fast even now

to those that ever endure.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Liturgy for Sunday 17th July 2022

SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Welcoming God into Our Midst

We are called to both work and pray - and it is sometimes difficult to strike the right balance, as Martha discovered. May we be willing to do the work of the Lord without forgetting the Lord of all work.

The Readings:

Genesis 18:1-10

Colossians 1:24-28

Gospel: Luke 10:38-42

Collect:

Show favour, O Lord,

to your servants and mercifully

increase the gifts of your grace,

that, made fervent in hope,

faith and charity, they may be ever

watchful in keeping your commands.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Liturgy for Sunday 10th July 2022

FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Reconciled to God and Each Other

God's word is very plain if only we look for it. He has reconciled all humanity in Christ and invites us to share that work by declaring our love for him and for each other.

The Readings:

Deuteronomy 30:10-14

Colossians 1:15-20

Gospel: Luke 10:25-37

Collect:

O God, who show the light

of your truth to those who go astray,

so that they may return to the right path,

give all who for the faith they profess are accounted Christians the grace to reject whatever is contrary to the name of Christ and to strive after all that does it honour.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Liturgy for Sunday 3rd July 2022

FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Peace Flowing Like a River

Peace cannot be touched or felt or smelt. It is an attitude that can only come from peaceful and peace-loving people. May we always reflect the peace of the heart of Christ, the peace he bequeathed to his Church.

The Readings:

Isaiah 66:10-14

Galatians 6:14-18

Gospel: Luke 10:1-12.17-20

Collect:

O God, who in the abasement of your Son

have raised up a fallen world,

fill your faithful with holy joy,

for on those you have rescued from slavery to sin you bestow eternal gladness.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
