Liturgy, Solemnities and Feasts - DECEMBER 2022

The Liturgy for Christmas 24th December 2022

THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD

Mass during the Night: A Son is Given to us

The darkness of this night is transformed by the birth of our Saviour. As calm and stillness descend upon the earth we hear once more the joyful song, 'Glory to God in the highest and peace to his people on earth'. May that blessing of peace be upon us, our family, our friends, our world.

The Readings:

Isaiah 9:1-7

Titus 2:11-14

Gospel: Luke 2:1-14

Collect:

O God, who have made

this most sacred night radiant with the splendour of the true light, grant, we pray, who have known the mysteries of his light on earth, may also delight in his gladness in heaven.

Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Liturgy for Sunday 18th December 2022

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT

The Maiden is with Child

The birth of Christ is almost upon us now. We are reminded in Isaiah's prophecy of the long-awaited Emmanuel - God in our midst. Like Joseph, we need to make room for Jesus to enter our lives and our world.

The Readings:

Isaiah 7:10-14

Romans 1:1-7

Gospel: Matthew 1:18-24

Collect:

Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord,

your grace into our hearts, that we, to whom

the Incarnation of Christ your Son was made known by the message of an Angel, may by his Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of his Resurrection.

Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Liturgy for Sunday 11th December 2022

THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT

Joy and Gladness Will be With Them

A festive feeling pervades today's Mass as we hear of the wonders which are associated with the coming of the Messiah. We are filled with hope as we hear the Good News which his coming will bring.

The Readings:

Isaiah 35:1-6.10

James 5:-10

Gospel: Matthew 11:2-11

Collect:

O God, who see how your people

faithfully await the feast of the Lord's

Nativity, enable us, we pray, to attain the joy of so great a salvation and to celebrate them always with solemn worship and glad rejoicing.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Liturgy for Sunday 4th December 2022

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

Repent, for the Kingdom of God is Close

St John the Baptist points us on our way to the coming Christ. We hope to be sharers in his kingdom - a kingdom of beauty and peace, as Isaiah's vision shows us.

The Readings:

Isaiah 11:1-10

Romans 15:4-9

Gospel: Matthew 3:1-12

Collect:

Almighty and merciful God,

may no earthly undertaking hinder those

who set out in haste to meet your Son,

but may our learning of heavenly wisdom

gain us admittance to his company.

Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
