CANDLEMAS

A Light for All Peoples

Today we celebrate the close of the Christmas festival of light. Candles are blessed and we carry them on procession to welcome Christ, the light to enlighten the Gentiles and the glory of his people.

Gospel: Luke 2:22-40

Collect:

Almighty ever-living God,

we humbly implore your majesty that,

just as your Only Begotten Son was presented on this day in the Temple in the substance of our flesh, so, by your grace, we may be presented to you with minds made pure.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Liturgy for Sunday 22nd January 2023

The Lord is Our Light and Our Help

Christ is the light of the world. In the confusion of our lives it is he who calls us from despair to hope, from sadness to joy, from darkness to light.

The Liturgy for Sunday 15th January 2023

SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The Chosen One of God

God wants everyone to know him and love him. Each one of us has been called to take part in his plan - called even before we were formed in our mother's womb. Today we say again, 'Here I am, Lord, I come to do your will.

'

The Readings:

Isaiah 49:3.5-6

1 Corinthians 1:1-3

Gospel: John 1:29-34

Collect:

Almighty ever-living God,

who govern all things, both in

heaven and on earth, mercifully hear

the pleading of your people and bestow

your peace on our times.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Liturgy for Sunday 8th January 2023

THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD

Jesus Christ, Lord of All Humanity

Jesus is baptised in the Jordan and receives the power of the Spirit to begin his ministry. Through our own baptism we have received that same spirit to be the driving force of our Christian life and work.

The Readings:

Isaiah 42:1-4.6-7

Acts 10:34-38

Gospel: Matthew 3:13-17

Collect:

Almighty ever-living God,

who, when Christ had been baptised

in the River Jordan and as the Holy Spirit descended upon him, solemnly declared him your beloved Son, grant that your children by adoption, reborn of water and the Holy Spirit, may always be well pleasing to you.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Liturgy for Sunday 1st January 2023

The Octave Day of the Nativity of the Lord

SOLEMNITY OF MARY, THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD

God Sent his Son, Born of a Woman

A stupendous fact: God chose one of our race, the virgin Mary, to be the mother of his Son. She is our pattern of response to the Father. By her willingness and humility she has earned the title 'Mother of God' and 'Mother of the Church'.

The Readings:

Numbers 6:22-27

Galatians 4:4-7

Gospel: Luke 2:16-21

Collect:

O God, who through the fruitful

virginity of Blessed Mary bestowed on

the human race the grace of eternal salvation,

grant, we pray, that we may experience the intercession of her, through whom we were found worthy to receive the author of life,

our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son.

Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
