The Church of St. Augustine is a friendly and welcoming church, committed to proclaiming Jesus Christ as Lord; our faith and worship are in the Anglo–Catholic tradition, under the pastoral and sacramental care of the Bishop of Richmond. The central act of worship is the Mass, wherein we proclaim and celebrate all that God has done for us in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our worship is conducted with reverence and dignity, and we are blessed in having an excellent musical tradition.

THE DIVINE MERCY
Happy are Those who have Not Seen and Yet Believe

The great joy of Easter continues. Even though we cannot see God, we are encouraged by the triumph of Christ's resurrection and we profess our faith that God will raise us too, trusting in His Divine Mercy.

God of everlasting mercy,

The Lord's right hand has triumphed and Christ is risen from the dead. Our thoughts are lifted to spiritual heights as we contemplate Christ's victory and look forward in hope to the promises which his resurrection holds out to us.

THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD
Jesus Has Risen Triumphant
​
Tonight's vigil is the Feast of Feasts. This is the blessed night when Christ, our morning star, has come back from the dead. All our faith, our worship and our lives as Christians take their meaning from this joyful celebration.
​
In accord with ancient tradition, this night is one of vigil for the Lord. It is a reminder to the faithful to have their lamps burning ready awaiting their master's return, so that when he arrives he will find them wide awake and will seat them at his table.
​
The Easter Vigil is arranged in four parts:
(a) The Service of Light - blessing the Paschal Candle.
(b) The Liturgy of the Word - the unfolding story of our salvation.
(c) The Liturgy of Baptism - with the renewal of our baptismal vows and our commitment to Christ.
(d) The First Mass of Easter - when we receive the risen Christ in Holy Communion.

Father, Into Your Hands I Commend My Spirit

The starkness of today's Solemn Liturgy is dramatic enough, but it is the meaning of Christ's suffering and death that is truly momentous. By his sacrifice he has won our salvation from everlasting death and won a victorious and final triumph over the powers of evil. We pray that people everywhere may come to know and accept Christ's saving Good News.

THURSDAY OF THE LORD'S SUPPER
Do this as a Memorial of Me

When he celebrated the Passover Supper on the night before he died, Jesus transformed its meaning. No longer were the disciples to celebrate the deliverance from Egypt by Moses through the Red Sea: now they were to keep festival in memory of Jesus the Redeemer and his Passover through death to life. Thus the Mass was born: and so faithful to our Lord's command we celebrate it this evening.

O God, who have called us to participate in this most sacred Supper, in which your Only Begotten Son,

Today marks the last lap of our Lenten journey with Christ through suffering to glory. We hail him as our king, who through death and resurrection will establish his kingdom as the hope of our salvation.

We do not have to dress ourselves up to be acceptable to our Father. He accepts us exactly as we are. If we truly repent then our past is blotted out and we are given a completely fresh start in the life of grace.
